Data collection

Snoobi is a browsed-based Internet visitor tracking system. In browser-based systems information is collected using a JavaScript tag which is inserted onto the tracked website's pages. The script sends all data about the user to Snoobi's main servers.

The same tracking script can be used on all pages and is easy to add to templates, forms or other content management solutions. The script functions equally well on http and encrypted https pages.

Browser-based tracking

Compared to log-based systems, browser-based traffic analysis tools are markedly more dependable and extensive. The drawbacks of server log usage includes proxy servers. A significant amount of pages are loaded from proxy servers as opposed to the original servers, which leaves no mark in server logs. This causes log files to incorrectly report 10-40 % less page loads than a browser-based tool.

A typical server log is updates one a day or perhaps once a week, whereas browser-based analysis systems like Snoobi is capable of creating tracking reports in real-time. Snoobi is an ASP service which means that no hard- or software has to be installed to use it, the only investment is the fee for the actual Snoobi tool.

Identifying repeat visitors

Snoobi uses cookies and IP addresses for identifying repeat visitors. Whenever a visitor enters the customer’s website, a cookie is stored in the visitor’s browser. This is how we are able to disregard multiple clicks by the same visitor. If cookies are not in use, Snoobi resorts to IP-based identification. In this case, a visitor is defined as the same if no more than 30 minutes elapse between page downloads.
